Bleakley’s One Show Replacement Announced

Alex Jones has been announced as the BBC’s replacement host for The One Show following Christine Bleakley’s highly publicised departure to network rivals ITV.

The 32-year-old saw off a host of bigger names such as Melanie Sykes, Gabby Logan and Kate Silverton to be awarded the £100,000 ($155,000) per year contract.

Jones is an established television presenter in Wales with over 10 years experience but is largely unknown in the rest of the UK.

She is best known for hosting Welsh extreme sports series Chwa and style programme Salon.

However, she also presented Welsh travel show Tocyn, a programme so unpopular the official viewing figures recorded it as zero – a stark contrast to The One Show, which enjoys regular audiences of five million.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to bits to be joining The One Show” beamed Miss Jones, “I watch the show at home every night on my sofa. It is the break I have only ever dreamed of”.

Jones has been lined up to present the evening programme between Monday to Thursday with comedian Jason Manford from Monday 16 August.

Her television career began when she appeared as a contestant on the Sky One show Prickly Heat with Davina McCall while sitting her finals in Theatre, Film and TV at Aberystwyth University.

She was voted as Wales’ 30th sexiest woman in a poll conducted by the Western Mail newspaper in 2009.
