Bond Actor to Star In “Tattoo” Remake
James Bond actor Daniel Craig has been lined up to star in an English-language remake of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” and two possible sequels based on the best-selling trilogy by author Stieg Larsson.
The remake will be directed by David Fincher, while Scott Rudin will produce and Steve Zaillian has signed up to write the film.
MGM’s continued financial restructuring has seen production and development on the next James Bond installment grind to a halt and this opportunity gives Craig a brand new franchise to make his own.
Ther original Swedish-language film adaptations are due for release in the United States after “Tattoo” grossed $9.6 million in the USA and $92 million around the world.
The follow up, “The Girl Who Played With Fire” was released in the USA earlier this month and has grossed $2.9 million so far. International earnings have been recorded at $51 million.
Music Box Films is in the process of releasing the original Swedish-language film adaptations in the United States. “Tattoo” has grossed $9.6 million in the U.S. and $92 million internationally.
The second film, “The Girl Who Played With Fire,” has grossed $2.9 million in the U.S. since its release earlier this month. It grossed $51 million internationally.
A third installement, “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest,” will be released later in the year.
