Manchester United 3 West Ham United 0
Wayne Rooney ended the longest goal drought of his career when he scored in a comfortable victory against West Ham at Old Trafford.
Rooney scored from the penalty spot, his first goal in 13 matches and goals from Nani and Dimitar Berbatov ensured United remained two points behind leaders Chelsea.
The result left the Hammers rooted to the bottom of the table, having lost all three matches played and without an away win in the Premiership since the first game of last season.
United had won 11 out of 12 previous league matches at home and after a sluggish start, got their breakthrough after 33 minutes.
Veteran duo Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs combined down the left and the Welshman was brought down in the box by former United youngster Jonathan Spector.
Rooney made no mistake from the penalty spot and scored his first goal since 30 March, sending goalkeeper Rob Green the wrong way and finding the bottom corner.
From then on it was one-way traffic. Darren Fletcher saw a curling 25-yard effort tipped around the post while Nani lifted the ball over the keeper but over the bar on the stroke of half time.
The Portuguese winger made amends five minutes after the restart, lashing in from the edge of the box after a pinpoint pass from Rooney.
In a rare lapse of defensive concentration, Kieron Dyer was left unmarked to hit a drive against the outside of the post but the Hammers never looked likely to get back into the game.
Berbatov rounded off the scoring after 69 minutes, acrobatically volleying in a Nani cross to the back post to stay hot on the heels of Premiership leaders and current champions Chelsea.
